The Honcho Round-up #98: London Toy Fair 2018

This week, the UK’s largest dedicated toy, game and hobby trade show, London Toy Fair 2018 is taking place at Kensington Olympia, West London. The three day event – which runs from today until Thursday 25th January – brings together a wealth of industry insiders, from buyers and retailers to manufacturers and more, all with one aim in mind: to talk toys!

Keen to keep you informed about all the key product info coming out of London Toy Fair 2018, today The Honcho Round-up offers up a few titbits that have been revealed as part of the event*. These titbits, gleamed from social media & via the show’s dedicated live stream, give a little insight into what toys & collectables you should expect to see in the coming year.

*Some of these products highlighted in this round-up have been revealed previously, but now thanks to London Toy Fair we have confirmation they are definitely heading our way.

London Toy Fair 2018 product reveals:

  • Masters of the Universe Pint Size Heroes (Funko) – Funko is to release a heap of MOTU Pint Size Heroes toys. The collection will include all the core characters, including He-Man, Skeletor, Battlecat, The Sorceress, Orko and Faker, amongst others. ETA: Spring.
  • Garbage Pail Kids Funko Pop! figures (Funko) – A set of Garbage Pail Kids Funko Pop! figures are being released. The set includes Beastly Boyd, Clark Can’t, Ghastly Ashley, Adam Bomb and an Adam Bomb variant figure. ETA: May.
  • Mr Men/Little Miss toys (Jumini) – Announced ahead of London Toy Fair 2018, Jumini is to release a range of wooden toys – for babies and toddlers – featuring the Mr Men & Little Miss characters. Toys will include mazes and shape sorters. ETA: 2018.
  • Ben 10 toys (Playmates/Flair) – Another announcement which came ahead of London Toy Fair 2018 is the continuation of Playmates’ Ben 10 toy line. The second wave will be composed of action figures, vehicles and role-play items and will be distributed in the UK by Flair. ETA: This month.
  • Care Bear Funko Pop! figures (Funko) – This irresistibly cute collection of Care Bear figures includes Love-A-Lot Bear, Grumpy Bear, Bedtime Bear, Cheer Bear, Funshine Bear and Good Luck Bear. Glitter and flocked variants will be available for most of the bears. ETA: March.
  • Hot Wheels Drone (Mattel) – Mattel is releasing a Hot Wheels-themed drone. ETA: 2018.
  • GraviTrax (Ravensburger) – Ravensburger is to release a gravity-themed construction toy. The toy works in conjunction with a dedicated app. ETA: 2018.
  • Rick & Morty Mystery Minis Plushies (Funko) – A whole heap of Rick & Morty products are on the way this year from Funko, including a collection of Mystery Minis Plushies. The pint-sized plushies feature an assortment of characters, including Mr. Poopy Butthole and Squanchy, amongst others. ETA: 2018.
  • Ouran High School Host Funko Pop! figures (Funko) – Three Funko Pop! figures based on the popular anime series, Ouran High School Host are on the horizon. The set includes Haruhi, Tamaki and Kyoya. ETA: 2018.
  • Soccerborg (Tomy) – Tomy is releasing a robo-football game. The game – a modern take on table top football – allows players to control two ‘borg’ football players via remote control. ETA: 2018.
  • Love Island The Game (Ginger Fox) – A Love Island board game is coming. Yep… a Love Island game. ETA: September 2018.
  • Strictly Come Dancing (Ideal) – A board game based on Strictly Come Dancing is also on its way. The game will feature a glitter ball, as well as a series of questions about the show. ETA: 2018.
  • Meegos (Click Distribution) – Handmade animal-based plushies, Meegos will be available from Click Distribution. The plushies will be produced in a standard size (6 to collect) and a mini-size (12 to collect). ETA: March 2018.
  • The Disney Collection (Posh Paws International) – A range of Posh Paws collectable soft toys, based on classic Disney characters will be in shops shortly. The range includes Rapunzel, Piglet, Elsa, Olaf and more. ETA: February 2018.
  • Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (Clementoni) – Clementoni is releasing a range of Jurassic World-themed 3D dino-puzzles, to coincide with the release of this summer’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. ETA: April
  • Sailor Moon Mystery Minis (Funko) – Funko is releasing a range of Sailor Moon/Sailor Scouts Mystery Minis. ETA: April 2018.

As well as all of the above, today I learned that slime-based toys are making a comeback. Oh and magic sets, yo-yos and board games will never go out of fashion.
