Rick Moranis turns down Ghostbusters

By Alex Wiggan

It’s official – Rick Moranis will not be appearing in the new Ghostbusters movie. The comedic actor – known for his roles in Little Shop of Horrors (1986) and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989) – admitted to The Hollywood Reporter that he was asked to cameo in the forthcoming movie, but declined.

He said:

“I wish them well. I hope it’s terrific. But it just makes no sense to me. Why would I do just one day of shooting on something I did 30 years ago?”

The actor spoke about his decision not to take a role in the new Ghostbusters movie during a rare interview with The Hollywood Reporter, during which time he announced his return to acting. Moranis quit acting during the ’90s in order to raise his children, following the death of his wife.

Moranis is the only original Ghostbusters actor – other than the deceased Harold Ramis – not set to appear in the forthcoming Ghostbusters reboot from director Paul Feig. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts and Sigourney Weaver have all confirmed that they will appear in the movie.

Ghostbusters is scheduled for release in July 2016.
