Mel Gibson for Suicide Squad sequel?

By Alex Wiggan

We did not see this one coming: It is currently being reported that actor/director, Mel Gibson could take over directing duties for Suicide Squad 2.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros is in talks with Gibson to take on the job for the proposed DC sequel. Gibson is currently making a comeback thanks to the positive reception of his new movie, the Oscar-nominated Hacksaw Ridge.

No official offer has been made just yet, but it is believed that Warner Bros has other directors in the frame, should Gibson pass on the project. It is believed that Daniel Espinosa is one such director.

David Ayer directed last year’s Suicide Squad, which despite negative reviews was a financial success. The film starred Margot Robbie, Jared Leto and Will Smith.

Ayer has made no secret of the fact he would have changed a few aspects of Suicide Squad if he could have done it all over again, but this isn’t the reason he is not back on board the sequel. Ayer is currently developing Suicide Squad spin-off, Gotham City Sirens.

So, what do you think?

Is Gibson the right director for the job? Or do you think someone else should land the gig? Let us know your thoughts.
