Marvel stuff we learnt this week

By Alex Wiggan

Well it’s fair to say that this week has been a good week for Marvel titbits – choice little nuggets of info that every good Marvelite will want to know. Now we did contemplate writing a blog post about each individual news piece, so you can read them all at your leisure, but then we realised that this would involve too much effort.

Far, far too much effort.

So instead of a series of blog posts, we’ve compiled all the titbits into one very short info blast.

You can thank us later.

1) First up, as reported earlier, we now know that the third and final Wolverine-solo movie will be called, Logan. If you checked out our earlier blog post, you will have also seen the official poster for the movie. However, we now have a shot of what Professor Xavier will look like when Logan hits cinemas in March 2017.

The shot of the Professor, which you can see to the right, shows an older and by the looks of it, slightly confused Xavier, backing up rumours that Xavier will not be as mentally stable as he once was. The image was released earlier today, via the Twitter account of director James Mangold.

2) Next up, we finally have a release date for the next Marvel/Netflix show – Iron Fist. According to Netflix, the entire first season of Iron Fist will drop on March 17th 2017. So if you fancy another binge watch, you know what day to book off work (throw a sickie).

3) And speaking about Marvel/Netflix shows, the Daredevil spin-off series, The Punisher is currently being filmed. The show – which is being shot in New York RIGHT NOW – will star Jon Bernthal.

4) OK, we admit it, we just can’t get enough of the Marvel/Netflix collaborations; but can you blame us? If you read our review of Luke Cage you’ll know how much we enjoyed it – especially the use of music in the series. So, we’re excited to discover that before his death earlier this year, pop royalty, Prince was being lined up for a guest spot in the show.

According to showrunner, Cheo Hodari Coker, Prince was being eyed up for an appearance (and a performance) in the season finale. In order to convince the pop star to appear, Coker went so far as to introduce a ‘Swear Jar’ into the show, to cut down on the amount of swearing used in the series – something Prince would have appreciated, apparently.

Speaking via Twitter, Coker, said:

“The ‘Swear Jar’ was for Prince. I was going to show him the first two episodes and convince him to play in episode 13.”

5) And finally, production on Spider-Man: Homecoming has officially wrapped. The movie is now in the editing stages, ahead of its cinematic debut in July 2017. WE CAN’T WAIT!
