Carnage to be villain in Venom movie

By Alex Wiggan

Well, well, well, we hoped it would happen but we didn’t expect it so soon – Carnage will finally appear in a Spider-Man movie.

Well, sort of.

Psychotic super villain, Carnage is to be the main villain in the forthcoming Spidey spin-off movie, Venom. The Hollywood Reporter dropped the news in a recent discussion about Marvel Studios’, Sony and the Spider-Man franchise.

Not only is this great news for fans of Carnage (which is pretty much everyone, right?), we also now know that the Venom film will be connected to Spider-Man: Homecoming, as will all the other Sony Spidey spin-offs. This is contrary to previous reports which suggested they would not be connected.

The Hollywood Reporter said:

“A source says (Tom) Holland is only contractually obligated to Spider-Man 2 and 3, but the intention is to bring him into the spinoffs and possibly other Marvel films (he is currently shooting Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War).”

The same article also states that Sony is eyeing up projects to feature Kraven the Hunter and Mysterio, alongside previously announced Black Cat/Silver Sable movie, Silver and Black. Plans for a Sinister Six movie have been put on hold.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is due out in July, with Venom set for an October 2018 release. Tom Hardy will play the role of Eddie Brock/Venom, but no news yet on who will play Cletus Kasady/Carnage.

We’ll keep you posted.
